Minisink Valley Athletics

Minisink Valley has a long and proud tradition of athletic participation and excellence thanks to our engaged students, strong community support, committed and dedicated teachers, coaches, support personnel, administrators, and our Board of Education. Our teams have captured numerous Orange County League and Section IX titles. We have also achieved several state championships and frequent state rankings. Not least of all, we are very proud of having received numerous team-sportsmanship and scholar-athlete team awards. We encourage all students to take part in our athletic programs to enrich their experience at Minisink Valley! Go Warriors!

CONGRATULATIONS VARSITY AND JV CHEERLEADERS

Minisink Valley varsity cheerleaders placed third at a Danbury, CT competition on Saturday, Jan. 13. On Sunday, Jan. 14, they placed first and Grand Champs in Delaware Valley.

The junior varsity team placed second at both competitions this past weekend.

The next competition is Saturday, Jan. 20, at John Jay High School, Hopewell Junction.

MINISINK CONQUERS SECTION 9 WRESTLING DUALS D-I TITLE

As Head Coach Kevin Gallagher is known to say, “You can’t coast uphill,” and last night Minisink Valley wrestlers spared no pains to earn their right to fight for NYS's Team Title with at the State Championships later this month.

 

Going in at 23-0 and ranking No. 1 in the state’s large-school pool, lended a mix of confidence and heavy sense of responsibility to deliver. But they are trained to make every practice and every match an opportunity to get better, and that they did.

TONIGHT: SECTION 9 WRESTLING DUALS IN MINISINK VALLEY

With the Warrior team ranking #1 in New York State—and Head Coach Kevin Gallagher about to be inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame—there will be no shortage of Minisink pride at tonight's Section 9 Wrestling Duals at Minisink Valley High School. 

The winner of this event will fight for the NYS Team Title at the State Championships in Syracuse. GO WARRIORS!

  • Semi-Finals: 5:30 p.m. • Finals: 7 p.m.
  • Admission: Students $3 Adults $6
  • IMPORTANT: Bring a non-perishable food item to help our community food banks.

This is Minisink's first time hosting this event. Let's show our colors and our spirit. Our athletes and coaches are counting on our support. 

NEWS UPDATE: SWIMMING & DIVING TEAM RECORD AT 9-0

The Mighty Warrior Swimming and Diving Team continues to work its hardest and getting amazing results. Last week, they pushed their record to 9-0! On Wednesday they beat Washingtonville, and on Saturday they finished second place out of 20 teams in the prestigious Schenectady Invitational.

Outstanding performances were turned in by Ryan Pietraszka, Caleb Vreeland, JJ Henriques, Adrian Donkor, Billy Schiele, Dylan Knapp, Owen Colfax and Jack Fulton. Great job, and good luck this week!

CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS BASKETBALL VARSITY TEAM!

Over the holiday break Minisink Valley girls varsity basketball team defeated Newburgh 50-31, and S.S. Seward 57-56 in overtime, to win The George McGinnis Tournament in Goshen.

  • Mackenzie Tresh was named the Tournament MVP with 25 points and 6 assists
  • Saige Colon was selected to the ALL-Tournament Team with 19 points and 27 rebounds
  • Lily Batule had 22 points, Ebony Oenga had 17 points & 8 steals and Elly Stacklum scored 16 points

HOLIDAY CHEER FOR ALL

It has been a long standing tradition of the MVHS cheerleading program to adopt the holiday wishes of families in need during the season of giving.

Thursday night, Dec. 21, team members came together in the school cafeteria to wrap presents and organize collected food items. Snuggly attired, they sang along to holiday tunes and enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate.

BOYS VARSITY & JV BASKETBALL UPDATES

Congratulations to the boys JV and varsity basketball teams for their conference road wins at Warwick last night.

Matt Koval had 15 points and 5 assists; Matt Filipowski 13 points and 9 rebounds; Kyle Filipowski 11 points; and John Mack had 7 rebounds to lead the way for the varsity team.

Great overall defense, holding Warwick to 18 points in the first half.

BOYS VARSITY SWIMMING & DIVING UPDATE

The boys varsity swimming and diving team pushed their record to 8-0 last night, with a win over Valley Central.  Great swims by Kris Talmadge, Adrian Donkor, Caleb Vreeland and Ryan Pietraszka. Well done, Warriors!

CONGRATULATIONS Michael Horner on two distinguished nominations: the Section IX Soccer Coaches Association Class AA All Section Team and the Times Herald Record All-Star Second Team. A junior, Mike will return for his senior season next year.  

BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING UPDATE

The boys swimming and diving team pulled it off last night beating the formerly undefeated Newburgh 105-80. Great performances were turned in by Ryan Peitraszka, JJ Henriques, Owen Colfax and James Bannon. Great job Warriors! Go get Valley Central on Thursday.
