Minisink Valley Athletics

Minisink Valley has a long and proud tradition of athletic participation and excellence thanks to our engaged students, strong community support, committed and dedicated teachers, coaches, support personnel, administrators, and our Board of Education. Our teams have captured numerous Orange County League and Section IX titles. We have also achieved several state championships and frequent state rankings. Not least of all, we are very proud of having received numerous team-sportsmanship and scholar-athlete team awards. We encourage all students to take part in our athletic programs to enrich their experience at Minisink Valley! Go Warriors!

FRESHMAN FOOTBALL STARTS AUG. 27

Minisink Valley Central School District and the athletics department are pleased to announce the return of freshman football, starting Monday, Aug. 27, at 1:30 p.m., in the high school gym.

The reinstatement of boys football for freshmen students was part of the 2018-19 budget proposal, approved by voters on May 15. We thank you for your support of this new, exciting opportunity for Minisink's student-athletes.

FALL SPORTS: ARE YOU REGISTERED? TRYOUTS BEGIN AUG. 13/HS, SEP. 5/MS

Is your student interested in participating in this fall's sports season? Our dedicated fall sports link on the Athletics page includes step-by-step instructions for registration on FamilyID and physical exam requirements and dates.

IMPORTANT/PHYSICALS:  Please note that physicals are only valid for one year. For varsity/JV sports, physical exams must have been completed no earlier than Aug. 1, 2017, to be considered current. For modified sports, physical exams must have been completed no earlier than by Sep. 1, 2017, to be considered current.

PRACTICE/TRYOUTS START DATES: High School – Aug. 13 • Middle School – Sep. 5. Pre-Season Practice Schedules can be found under the Athletic Forms, Schedules tab. 

 

SWIMMING/DIVING CAMPERS SHOW THEIR PROMISE

All 54 participants in the Swimming & Diving Camp underway this week are off to an impressive start. "We had some of the fastest times on day one!” said Brian Golden, head coach for the camp and the boys varsity swimming program. “These kids are serious swimmers, ready to go! The outlook is very promising."

 

Among campers, first grader Gavin loves swimming and hopes to get a lot better at it by week’s end. His sister Bernadette, a fifth grader, looks forward to swimming with her friends every day. Eight grader Brandon appreciates the coaching staff and their instruction, and third grader Page loves diving and making new friends.

CHEERLEADING CAMPERS READY FOR SHOWTIME

The Warriors Cheerleading Summer Camp came to a spectacular closing on July 26, with the youngest of Minisink’s cheerleaders putting on a performance for their families in the high school gym.

 

During a camp session, first-time participant Taylor, a third grader, shared some insights while stopping at the water cooler. "I had a great day and I love to learn new cheers," Taylor said. When she goes home, she likes to demonstrate learned skills to her mom and dog Coco. Olivia, another third grader, prefers the camp’s stunt and dance components.

MVHS SWIMMING-DIVING SUMMER CAMP, AGES 7-17: JULY 30-AUG. 3, 2018

The Minisink Valley Swimming and Diving Summer Camp is a comprehensive program covering the four major swimming strokes, and the basic skills of competitive diving. Emphasizing the mastering of techniques for all aspects of the sport, the camp will be guided by Brian Golden, head coach for MV’s varsity boys swimming, with the assistance of varsity standouts.

Hours: Swimming – 12 - 2 p.m. • Diving: 1:15 – 3 p.m.
Location: Minisink Valley High School pool
Cost: $125 per swimmer • $100 per diver • $200 swimming & diving sessions

2018 WARRIORS CHEERLEADING SUMMER CAMP, AGES 6-15: JULY 23-26

Hosted by MVHS varsity cheerleaders, under the direction of Coach Patti Archiere, the cheerleading summer camp will cover cheerleading fundamentals (motions, technique), cheer, jumps, dance, training and conditioning, stunting (age appropriate), limited tumbling, games and prizes. The camp is open to ages 6-15, in all skill levels, and participants need not be Minisink residents.

Hours: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. • Location: Minisink Valley High School
Cost: $90 per child • $150 for two family members; $220 for three or more family members

WARRIORS FOOTBALL RECENT WINS

CONGRATULATIONS Warriors football, Teams A and B, on their recent wins!

 

A-TEAM

• 2nd place finish among 13 competing teams, at the annual MV Linemen's Challenge, June 15.

• Winner of the large school division of Hudson Valley 7-on-7 Shootout, Warwick, June 16. They finished 6-0, defeating Newburgh in the finals. They now qualify for the state tournament in Ithaca, on July 14-15.

MV BOYS LACROSSE CAMP, GRADES 3-8: JULY 16-20

The goal of the Minisink Valley Boys Lacrosse Camp is to create a high-energy environment to teach and reinforce the fundamentals of the sport. With the positive example of varsity coaching staff and athletes, campers will sharpen their skills and develop a higher lacrosse IQ, under the direction of Head Varsity Coach Chad Lakeman.

• Hours: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. • Location: Minisink Valley Pit Field (main campus)
• Cost: $110 per camper

MVHS VARSITY BASEBALL SUMMER CAMP, AGES 6-14: JULY 9-12, 2018

The Minisink Warriors Baseball Camp is a comprehensive baseball program covering all aspects of the game including hitting, fielding, base running, and pitching. Under the direction of varsity Head Coach Dave Benedetto, participants will be taught the finer points of the game by skilled training staff with high school, college and professional experience, as well as by former and current members of MV’s varsity baseball.   

Hours: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. • Location: Minisink Valley Middle School fields
Cost: $115 per participant • $95 for multiple siblings

MV SOFTBALL SUMMER CAMP, GRADES 4-10: JUNE 26-29

Open to all Minisink girls entering grades 4-10 the camp will be directed by players and coaches with the Minisink Valley softball program. The goal of the camp is to provide quality instruction at a reasonable price and to promote softball in the school district. The players will be separated into 2 or 3 levels according to their age and their ability.

Hours: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. • Location: Minisink Valley softball fields
Cost: $150 p. child • $75 for each additional child in the same family
